Anyone know the hammer prices of the two A1-s that went though Little Johns Auction House this week?   ...Nothing on their site as of yesterday    Interesting Vent rib Specials! a 16 and a 28g....   Neat stuff!

I called Little John's Thursady afternoon to get the final bid on the A-1 Specials and was told it would be next week before realized prices are compiled. We'll just have to wait.

The Littlejohns Auction Service is less than user friendly.  The catalogs are very expensive and hard to access on the website.  I still can't find a catalog and price key from the Robert Stack auction.  Would anyone care to sell me theirs?  I would trade other interesting catalogs for that one.

Tom, thanks...  I can see that, as expected, PGCA members are on the case!   ....Question is- Who got 'em?  Hope one of us!

Bill, we rarely disagree, but I give Little Johns 2 thumbs up.  They have by far the best auction catalogs in the industry in terms of quality of photos and descriptions of the guns they offer.  If you buy things at their auctions they'll send complementary catalogs for future auctions.  You should have picked up that 28ga A-1S!!!  You'd probably get free catalogs for life!  We have bought items there and are always satisfied.

All I know about Robert Stack's Parker collection is that his BHE 28ga was a super cream puff and the next bid would have made it cost damn near 6 figures.......

OK, Littlejohns is a great auction house, but I would still like to purchase a Robert Stack catalog with price key.  Their website has always been a mystery to me when purchasing old catalogs and sometimes about accessing information about upcoming auctions.  I can't find info on either of these services most of the time.

This is one of the guns as taken from the Little John site. If this gun is unrestored, then it has to be one of the nicest condition Parkers I've ever seen - at least from the
photo.

Well, the thumbnail won't enlarge....sorry!

On second look, there is also a Parker which appears to be a .410 on a previous auction page. It also looks very nice, I guess I am having a hard time believing these guns are not refinished and/or restocked.

Have I got this straight?  Lot 224 was Bob's BHE 28-gauge, Lot 234 was his DHE .410-bore, and lot 240 was his CHE 20-gauge?

Dave from what I remember from that auction both the 28 and the 410 were Stack's guns, one unfired the Remington gave to him the other just about mint (yes I did bid on one) both guns were bought by the same man that I understood later to be a friend of Stack's. Eric

Eric, For those of us that have been out of the collecting arena- Do you have the hammer prices for the 2003 Stack Parkers?    I was surprised at what I considered moderate (not spectacular) numbers from the recent D Julia auction of Fall '05 and would like to hear your thoughts on the subject...     Thanks -Kevin

Kevin, keep in mind that the majority of Jim Parker's Parker guns were refinished in one form or another and a few were upgrades, (a scant minority were high original condition guns)... hence the lower than expected hammer prices. On the other hand, some of the lower grade, desirably configured Parkers went for considerably more than was anticipated.

Both the 410 and 28 went in the mid sixtys. I think one was 62 or 63 and the other was 65K. Well out of my range and that was a few years ago. But you had a couple of people that really wanted those guns and the last bids were between them which took the guns up in price, as those were high prices at the time. Eric

The results from Little John's will be interesting-  The 28 as well as the 16 were vent rib (similar config to Stack guns) and original condition.... Hard to say how strong though...

I have to say Parkers are undervalued. $65K is a lot of money, but not in the grand scheme of things. We have people paying $3 million for a useless dish, $700K for a vase, and yes, $200K for a Henry rifle - yet a mint small bore Parker only fetches $65K?

Even cream-of-the-crop musclecars are bringing millions, so why not Parkers?

The question troubles me also... As far as art is concered we have original "old masters paintings" so to speak, on any period engraved Parker...   They are all original works of art, some better than others- but original none the less,    ...can you buy an original Whistler for under $100,000???       I think that collectors price support is brought on (created) by very public auctions (and TV coverage!!) such as the Barrett Jackson or in the case of antiques, the big New York and London Auction houses....  Things like the "Vintage Concours" for guns will help but it will take someone paying WAY TO MUCH at a big Auction house for these guns to jump in value the way muscle cars and antiques have ......     Ready to stage a sale??

Kevin, there are dealers already asking "WAY TOO MUCH". The sad day will be when someone with "WAY TOO MUCH" money and WAY TOO LITTLE common sense pays the ridiculous asking prices we see WAY TOO OFTEN. :D
