Ah Gerald me Lad- 'tis the Irish in me (O'Malley and O'Mara) I am retired, my wife (7 years younger- still is teaching- as are two of my three beloved daughters- I sold GrandDad's older Hammer Purdey 12 bore with the Whitworth Steel barrels- and used the gains to pay for their college and grad school-never regretted it either- but the Parkers- those aren't for sale- Bauman or Baumann comes from a German word- something akin to "from a tree bough or limb" perhaps a carpenter- my surname was "Americanized" years ago from Slavic to what it is now-the great melting pot- sometimes I do wonder if the gentlemen who have seen fit to castigate me as a "newbie" here (could I join even if I didn't have a Parker shotgun, no matter the manner in which I acquired same?) have forgotten the true "The Second Amendment exists so that the First Amendment can".. Amen- and again, thanks for the kind words Last edited on Sat May 17th, 2008 01:03 pm by Francis Morin

Suit yourself. Many come in by air or car with expensive guns. Or bring a less valuable gun.

Like some of the other boys, I take great umbrage to one of your recent statements!!!!
The best crab cakes in the east are served at the Old Ebbitt Grill across the street from the Treasury Building in Washington, DC. *wink*
They also serve up a mighty good mug of cold beer in the Decoy Bar attached to the side and used to have a very decent cigar humidor as well but sadly DC has gone all non-smoking in the gin palaces.

Yes Francis, it's spelled with two N's. Name goes back hundreds of years in and around southern Germany.
58 years in the classrooms as student, teacher & administrator. My mother along with two of my three sons and daughter-in-law are also teachers. Honorable profession for those who can handle the task.
My field gun is a fine Parker VH 16ga. on an O frame. Everything is still as it came from the factory on May 6, 1909. Less than a year from now the old girl will be 100 and still in great shape. I would hope someday I can say the same.

Wow. They serve great crab cakes at the Red Lobster in Manhattan, Kansas. They come in those little crimped foil bases and you put tartar sauce on them. You can also get fried catfish strips and french fries. Destry, you wouldn't have to go to D.C.
Sorry I missed the folks at the Southern. I crewed on a 34 Hunter to the Farallons out through the Gate.

I never said I could spell, and I can't shoot either. I'm a disappointment to my parents I can assure you. *gloom*
Regards,
Destry the Dunce
P.S. to Bruce: I'm sure right across the street at another joint they serve some of that wonderful Kansas BBQ you're always squalling about. You know all the best places, my epicurean adventures pale in comparison to yours.

Apologies accepted, Destry. Its true, we have great BBQ out here. You can even put barbeque sauce on the catfish strips if you want.

I think we need to vote on whether or not that is an acceptable excuse

The real question would be if there is an acceptable excuse for him to actually be allowed to show up.

While below the deck I did have some churnings which I attributed to missing my friends. But then I came up the ladder, looked at the sails, quickly felt better and forgot all about it.
How about I let you shoot the 24" 20ga, Destry. Would you allow me back then?

My next door neighbor left my good company to become Dean of Arts and Sciences at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. He wasn't much of a second amendment advocate, questioned why I was. If you run into him at the Red Lobster, tell him I said Hi. I wonder if there are any literary quotes that relate to Red Lobster? I'll be watching this thread, just in case. Bill, in all seriousness, KSU is a fine school, they have great students and the most serious problems are weekend hangovers from the students drinking too much 3.2 beer in Aggieville. Your friend likely made a satisfying career move. Their production of Rhodes scholars is second to none.
For disagreements, I assume you are talking about Dwight Eisenhower.

I'll have to try that out Destry- why is it, as a newbie who hasn't yet "ponied up" and therefore can't start a "thread- or Irish pennant" herein, enjoys your phraseology- to take "umbrage" recalls the late Winston Churchill- a stickler for perfection in grammar and syntax- Winnie- a brother cigar man-like Mark Twain and Rudyard Kipling-Once said that "An umbrella (OK- maybe he said bumbershoot) is something out with which I shall not go on a rainy day". You look to be a bit of a broth of a man, amigo- so I good sized umbrage shall be "de riguer" for our foray to said fine establishment-whereby the crab cakes shall be tested- and fine Irish whiskeys and then Cuban hand rolled cigars savored-and "My Treat"- And my sincere apologies to Bro Murphy- I made the mistake of assuming he was a brother Hibernian (if Murphy ain't an Irish name, the Pope ain't a Catholic) without havin' the timerity to inquire as to whether he be Green or Orange- As he "emoticonned me" for trading an altered Parker SC-! single trap 34" (I couldn't hit a bull in the ass at 20 feet with it with Federal paper Champions 7&1/2 shot size- for a mint engraved M12 Pigeon Grade Trap gun mfg. in 1948 with the older milled rib and the scarcer 30" Imp. Mod. barrel (very much the the M12 sn. 875867 on page 99 of the Dave Riffle m12 book- except mine didn't come with the LOM case, it has the slight MC stock and has the same solid red pad as shown on the below ils. M12 Heavy Duck-it is the only "High Grade" perfect repeater I own-and it's NFS-but as Bro Murphy mentioned his ownership of M12's- I recommend he read the Sporting Classics May/June 1985 issue- Dave Petzal does a great job with his story-and why M12's were the choice years ago for competition trap and skeet- Dave has one major error in that article (I wrote him, and he kindly replied and verified my "sharp eye for detail"- if Bro Murphy can spot it- I'll buy him a Bushmills or a Tullamore Dew if we ever meet-

Bruce,
Tell you what, just give me that case with my initials on it and we'll call it even.
Francis,
I've not been in the DC area in quite awhile, just let me know when you want to head out there and we'll go. *wink*
I'm fresh out of cuban cigars but a quick trip across the bridge will solve that problem mighty quick.
We can run by and view my favorite piece of sporting art at the Smithsonian while we're in town.

Francis, don't take either umbridge or umbrage at this, but how come you never met a run on sentence that you didn't like or a paragraph break that you did like?
Its like reading James Joyce without the good parts.

Darn, Bruce, you're quick to read these posts. I edited my post when I realized my debating partner didn't even live in Kansas!
