David,
My message was not directed at you. You just posted a historical find on a potential prominent owner of vintage Parker guns. My post was directed at Mr. Cronkhite and his need to try to educate the world. I think he needs to think before he posts.
David, You did nothing wrong in my opinion. As a matter of fact, you bought some books...... found a "SUPER LIST OF GUNS" and did nothing to follow up on availability of found guns. If anything, you had the right to second contact, and did not take it.
Patrick

My apologies for any offense taken. I harbor no need to attempt to educate the world. The information is public. Anyone perusing the forums where names are discussed can readily determine this level of information. I have removed the information. A PM would have been more appropriate.

Roger, you have a good memory! Dick Bohl was indeed set up at tables next to mine at the last Cleveland OGCA show. In addition to some very nice Parkers, he had some fabulous artwork. I offered to trade him all the Parkers on my table (and I had 4 nice ones!) for an Edmund Osthaus original oil painting of a pair of English Setters, one pointing and the other backing, into a covey of quail barely visible in the underbrush. I always wanted an original Osthaus and was indeed serious. He very kindly told me no, that he had plenty of Parkers already but "only" 4 original Osthaus oils! He then invited me to come to his home to view them the next time I was there for an OGCA show, something I always regret not doing. Fine man, fine guns, and fine original American sporting art!

This to Patrick;
First you did not know Dick Bohl therefore your remark about privacy is way off the mark, Dick had no qualms about letting people know of his collection. Save your pontification for Sunday!! I did not let a cat out of the bag. Also he won the first PGCA raffel gun. Dick's trusted goofer was a classmate/ good friend (also in the happy hunting grounds) of mine and I was privy to many of his secrets via Don or Dick and they are to this day still a secret.
Kevin; Yes I remember that Osthaus being on display. Dick put that Osthaus in a Las Vegas art auction six months before his demise. He was also a huge antique collector and put his daughter in the antique business. Dick had many sides to his life and I miss shooting with him to this day.
Roger

I had not heard of the artist Osthaus. I entered the name into Google images and enjoyed viewing the results. Thanks. Jack

Drew: Thanks for the link. The originals must really be something to behold. I'll try sending my 15 cents to Dupont
Cheers,

Thanks Doc, Got it bookmarked. He sure got it right with Setters; but, they were his dogs. The Pointers leave a little to be desired. Now none of you Setter guys say there's not much help for the Pointers, I know better.

Bill: Very nice and an interesting history of the artist. For those who enjoy the setter afield, how is their coat when it comes to burrs? Burrs are plentiful in the habitat I hunt. Currently considering breeds for our next, maybe last, gun dog. Jack

Jack,
We have burrs also, I just deal with it. Unless you have a real long hair dog, which my two Llewellins are not, its not much of an issue. I know some people trim the hair and others use vaseline.

Jack,
If all goes well, I should have a fine litter of quality Labs, ready to go in early may. This is a repeat breeding, the last litter of 9 have turned into wonderful bird/gun dogs. Don't know what you are looking for, these should be some good pups.
Bob

Jack,
If you get Pointing Dog Journal the author Spaulding Hoffhacker has an excellent article on the abilities of Labs.
