Mr. Dunkle, who was Porter E. Osborne, (spelling my be incorrect in ATA publication)? Porter is listed at addresses in W. Somerville and Auburndale, Mass. He was a fairly high average shooter and was listed as a pro in at least one year, 1923. His name, as well as G.L.'s were listed in both spellings depending on the year. G.L. also won the Mass. State Championship in 1914, 1916, and 1919, and was runnerup in 1927 and 1929 if I remember correctly. I had all this information on a post and it got deleted, so I'm starting from scratch. G.L. was high average shooter in Mass. in some years, second high in some. I have not determined when he dropped out of competitive trapshooting, but in the late 20's, he was shooting a higher average than ever before, in the mid 95s as I recall. His 100 straight in the 1918 State Championship was one of only two perfect scores nationwide in state shoots that year.

Hi Donnie!
What a pleasure to "meet" you in this thread - thanks for posting!! It's amazing the family legacy that surrounds many of these old firearms. For that - how many times do we see a fine SXS at a show or an event - and think "if only that gun could talk"? I think we are among the lucky ones - as we don't need the gun to tell us its provenance, for rather - we know its history - which makes it a special part of our legacy...
Donnie - my thanks again!! And as well - please post pics of some of your Parkers and other firearms if you get the chance, OK??
Best always,
John

Hi Bill..!
P.E. (Porter) was G.L.'s cousin (younger) and I'm amazed you know about him at all! Great research, Bill - thanks!!!
Also - you hit the nail on the head - as he was, as I understand it - a high average shooter who didn't compete at the same level as G.L., nor for as long. As I recall, his registered shoots were mostly in Mass. (but, I don't have ATA records?)... While I do have the Osborn family genealogy (thanks to my Dad!) - I've never done much research on Porter, as I never met him nor any of his descendants? It would be interesting, though - to learn more about him? As well - as you note - "Osborne" & "Osborn" were interchanged at random - even in the state census records from that period (which makes it interesting to research! ) The correct spelling is "Osborn" for both P.E. and G.L. - and as well - my middle name.
Bill - many thanks again!!!
John

Bill, I'm not sure which Julia catalog exactly, at least a couple years old...

Sir - you amaze me with your research archive... And as well, Bill's - who pegged P.E. as well... You guys are tremendous... For that - you have my thanks...

Chris, that is terrific! Same Parker Double Trap, just a couple of generations apart.
John, I think ol' G.L. would be mighty proud of you. You do that Parker and it's heritage proud. Have you got any kids who you have brought into the shooting sports? Want to adopt one.... ? (legally, I don't think it matters that I'm older than you Dad) ... Bruce, Don? Legal opinions please?

Do any of us have any idea what make of single trap George is holding in that picture? By the way, if you think the guy pictured in the picture that John Dunkle posted on the third page of this thread resembles Mr. Dunkle, take a look at the picture of my neighbor with author Bill Mullins on page 1031 of The Parker Story, Volume 2. Now there is a resemblance.

I was going through some early trap shoot reference material last night, (probably similar to Murph's stuff) and just happened upon this image that was also listed with State Champ winners and scores for 1916... I'm sure there is a lot more available on George L. Osborn/Osborne, just takes time to look... The reason I posted this one was because of how much John looks like his GrandDad, even after a couple generations down the tree... And I thought John would enjoy seeing the old photo...
John, just shoot me a PM with your mailing address, and I will be happy to send you this reference and anything else I might find... ... Below is the full image with the 1916 State Champion chart as well....
P. S. to Bill ~ My guess is the single trap is an Ithaca or Parker, then again, might be a Daly?
Best, Chris
