Hey Dean & Dave,
My thanks... I suppose I should post a pic of Grand-pa as well. I posted it below. He was about my size - and the picture was taken July 15th 1918 at the Mass State Trap Championship where he ran 100 straight. I believe he has his SBT for that shoot..? That pic hangs in my office and has for years.... Anyway - yes - I have a number of his smaller medals and patches/awards - as well as four of his guns shown in that picture (two handguns - the WC Scott Empire Grade and again - the AAHE. The larger tropies were given to Kilby (Grand-pa's first son) and his second son - John. John Osborn was my Grand-dad - and the Parker went to him - then to me. John Osborn had four daughters, so the tropies & silver cups were split among them - so - I don't have those - and I'm guessing many have been sold or..?
But - what I do have as well are all the family letters from my Great Grand-dad and Great-Grandmother from the time before they were married and after... Including letters from my grandfather to his parents - Grandpa and my great grandmother....
I could go on-and-on - but... I won't.. But - that silly Parker had a special place in my great-granddads life, and as well - my grandfathers. It's strange - given the events of my life - it holds a very - very - special place as well... It reminds me of all of lifes successes and how, if you value something beyond monetary values - it will always come back to you - 10 times over. And yea - a Parker taught that lesson - as did a special person..
And it is home...
And that is what's even more incredible....
Here's my Great Grandfather - who has just has been and always will be "Grandpa" to me....

Best to you!
John

John, a nice display. The AA is an extraordinary gun, I had the pleasure of shooting it. I know you have acquired a nice V 410 but I don't know what else you have come by yet. If you can recall his other Parkers, some may yet find their way to you. I have my grandfather's P 16ga and I always take it along.
I know you had a great time on the Kansas hunt and why not post those great hunt pictures. Glad you found our western birds to your liking and I suspect that was the first of many trips out to the plains.
Merry Christmas and best regards.
By the way, if anybody has to have a VH 410/26", a 1926 field configuration gun with no excuses, but high cost, one is available. I have no connection to it and will merely pass on the identity of the private seller.

John, is your great grandfather George Osborn from Brookline? What is the DGJ reference for the article on the AAHE?

Yea - so I've been told by my Mom and most of the family..! Damn him for all my shortcomings in height, facial expressions, etc.. HAHAH!!!! BTW - I never saw him wear a ballcap? He probably would have loved them, though!!

Hey Bruce!
Kansas Pheasant hunting was absolutely OUTSTANDING!!! I still owe Bill M. a thread on my .410 - so I'll post a few pics of the guys out there at the hunt after I get the .410 thread up, OK?? As well - I have a few other Parkers - you know about the DH show gun, the .410, but I have a few others - which, I'll post when.. Well - I dun'no when?? Yea - I have a few - but remember - I don't display - post - too often - but, I will, OK???

Hi Bill..!
Yep - same guy... Hyslop Road in Brookline... He had that house custom built for him and Anne D. (Dana) Osborn (his wife and my great-grandmother - who I called "Nana"). In fact - I have the original building plans, and his "gun room" on the building plan is the same "gun room" I posted about above..
My Best to all..!

Hi Bruce..!
Well - since you spoke about shooting it - and this thread turned something nostalgic for me.. Here is a true story...
After I re-acquired the AAHE after a few years - I didn't tell anyone in my family. You see - I'm sort of private - so, I don't say too much, if you know what I mean?
Anyway - a few years ago - one of my brothers sons and my folks wanted to stop by for the day. I asked, before they arrived - if they wanted to go trap shooting. Obviously - my Mom and Dad are older then me - at 70+ something years old, so they don't like surprises. But they said you bet! So - as I'm on the BOD of a trap range - I arrived early and opened it up.
And a little bit later they arrived and we had the range to ourselves..
And here is the rest of the story...
I handed out trap guns to my Dad and my nephew. I took out another one of my trap guns for me, and assembled it. As I expected - my Mom (Grandpa's grandaughter) asked if there was a gun for her. I ignored her question...
Instead - I said....
"I never remember you telling me you shot Grandpa's Parker, did you ever shoot it?"
Her reply was simply - I guess a statement of the times - was: "I was never allowed to shoot the Parker."
My reply was "Isn't is about time you shot it?"
And with that - opened the case which hid her grandfathers Parker and assembled it for her. And after I assembled it - put it in her hands for the first time to shoot it. My Mom is about 5' 2" on a good day and about 115 pounds "soaking wet". But that danged Parker fit her like a "bee to honey".
And Gentleman - she shot two rounds of trap with that AAHE Parker - and couldn't hit a danged thing. But you know what? It did not matter. She - my Mom - shot that Parker for the first time in her life after 70 years. And for that?
My Mom still talks about that day. She told her other three younger sisters "she shot Grandpa's Parker" - which none of her sisters were allowed to do.
And for my Mom? That is what it is all about...
Thanks for reading,
John

John - thank you for a great story and more than a little insight into your family history. What this all means is fathers, take your daughters shooting.

A wonderful story John. I have met some wonderful people in this hobby of ours and look forward to getting together with you again......and drive one of Lon's Porsches on those incredible Montana mountain roads. Great people and great times.
Hope to see you in Wisconsin at our PGCA Pheasant Fest exhibit. I understand we will have a high grade Parker there that belonged to one of the most famous people in gun development.

John,
As I mentioned a few years ago when you first posted here on the Dec-2006 thread, many members (myself-included) were quite taken with your very unique AAHE Parker story... A short time later when I read that your GrandDad's Parker had come full circle, it truly illustrated how some things are still possible with a little luck and goodwill... An Outstanding real-life story, and great Parker history...
As an old Gunning photo collector and early Trap-shoot researcher, I enjoyed the 1918 image of your Great GrandDad, Nice old Photo!
Best, Chris ~ CSL

Dean, at least a couple years ago...
When I went back to find it on the site it was gone, but luckily I had clipped and saved this image early on for future reference...

John,
Thanks for sharing your family story. The photos are incredible. While I'm sure you are quite pleased to have inherited your Great Grandfathers good looks wouldn't it have been great if at least a little of considerable shooting prowess had been passed along?

What Julia catalog, Chris? I'd like to take a look at it. By the way, what DGJ issue was the original article on the AAHE in?
