favorite turkey loads

Default favorite turkey loads

turkey season is just around the corner....my favorite load inmy old turkey gun is 49 grains of bluedot 2 1/2 ounces of no2 s in the left barrel and 2 1/2 ounces of no 6 in the right barrel for the closeup shots...yep its a 8 ga load.... whats yalls favorite load and gauge..... charlie

my load is 40 grs bluedot and 1 1/2 6's out of one of my 10 ga's good out to 45 yds scott

4 1/2 drams of 2F black powder 1 1/2 oz of #6 for the 10 gauge.

Inside of forty yards I like a nice full/full with #6 or #7 1/2 shot in anything but a .410

Head & neck shots only boys - the only way to kill a big turkey without making turkeyburger injected with wads of feathers.

From the backdoor, I like my .410 Lefever with #4.
From the upstairs bathroom window, I prefer a 45gr .22LR

i also like the short ten in the oldloads of 1 5/8 oz in no 4 or 6 shot.... charlie

if i hunt with the old 12 ga i llike the old loads of 4 drams and 1 1/2 ounce shot in no5 lead.... charlie

Good luck to everyone. My season starts next weekend and looking forward to trying out my new/used PH. Here is a photo from a hunt at the Webb Wildlife Center in Garnett, SC, a few years ago.

Can't wait to get out there myself, we have a month and half wait though. This warm weather is bringing the birds out early I'm seeing them almost every day now.

our season starts next week end also seen a couple jakes thursday...all i got to do now is to decide what load and gun to carry...boy thats a beautiful site in that picture... thanks.... charlie
