I finally received Parker number 01248 yesterday.
Gary, the reason the gun doesn't fit the case properly is that the wooden insert has warped with age and the action has to be wedged in. It was shipped to me in the case and the case was damaged but I can repair it easily. I'll have to get the insert straightened and then all will be well. The gun itself is very nice and I am quite pleased with it. Has anyone tried shooting RST shells through decarbonized steel? I would just like to shoot it few times if it is safe to do so.
The 10ga grade 3 top action hammergun from the same auction is nicer than I thought it would be, but has a replaced right hammer that doesn't match well. Does anyone have a spare or know where I should look?

David, I would not recommed shooting a decarbonized steel barrelled gun.

David, I'm glad that you finally received your guns. I searched for a hammer for the 10 gauge but was unable to find one. Jim Kelly at Darlington Gun Works said that he could make one to match. I don't know how much it would cost. If you e-mail me I can give you the name & address of the lady that I got it from and whose husband's family it was in. The lifter came out of the Jim Parker collection.

Best Regards, George
