Charles Frazier was a native of Haywood County, the county I live in. Cold Mountain is 15 or so miles from here (key word, he doesn't live here now), and the story was supposedly loosely formed from stories about this are.

Thanks to Mr. Frazier many places of commerce are named for that book or the mountain.

Thirteen Moons wa supposedly set in the same general area, possibly more toward Cherokee which is the adjoining county.
