This is a very early hammerless Grade 3 and some unusual features have been noted from this period. Best thing to do which might explain the "2 dogs on each side" engraving motif would be ordering a Research Letter. Hopefully there might be clues there.
I count only 43 earlier D3 Hammerless guns in the ID & Serialization book. There are probably a few more but only a few, I'm sure. It is fun to find the very earliest of some Parkers because they clearly show the evolution of the grades.
