serial no. question
hope somebody can help me with this serial no. 56210 suppose to be a 10 ga dh grade with 26 inch barrels damacus... has 2 dogs on each side and a dog on the bottom flore plate....thanks charlie
Charlie, two dogs on each side is standard for B grade and higher.
56210: grade 3 damascus, 10ga. hammerless, capped PG, 30" barrels, no extras.
The book says it left with 30" tubes, grade 3 (DH) 10 ga.
Charlie, can you post pictures of the "2 dogs on each side"?
definately 2 dogs on each side 1 dog on the floor plate..it has 26 inch barrels damascus...it is all no matching even to skelton butte plate...so says the seller....weve bought the gun but will be a few days before i have my hands on it..... we will take pictures and post them when we get it should be here next week...most unusal engraving on a d grade...i know for sure that it is a d grade it has the no 3 stamped in frame... should give us something to jaw about...

This is a very early hammerless Grade 3 and some unusual features have been noted from this period. Best thing to do which might explain the "2 dogs on each side" engraving motif would be ordering a Research Letter. Hopefully there might be clues there.
I count only 43 earlier D3 Hammerless guns in the ID & Serialization book. There are probably a few more but only a few, I'm sure. It is fun to find the very earliest of some Parkers because they clearly show the evolution of the grades. |
seller said gun was made in 1889 i didnot look it up..glad to hear its a early gun..seller said that there was only 45 like it but i never paid no mind to it...owner said he shot it with black powder loads...not a good turkey gun but should be ok for doves or shooting ducks over decoys...the old gun is a 2 frame gun so should not be to heavy... charlie

Charlie, glad you got this gun, I was bidding but it got to the point that I realized I didn't need another project that bad. Nice engraving, but only I dog on each side, #2 frame so it should be easy to find a set of barrels for it. Here are some of the photos from G/B.
