Mr. Hanson:
This is what's known as a "motor case." Not a trunk case. I assume that it had a Purdey label inside when you acquired it? If not, there is no way to ascertain that it was built for a Purdey gun.

Generally from your information, these were made up for a pair or trio of guns. Few shooters have those on hand these days. If it were to be reconfigured, it might well be for a single or a pair. This all depends on the dimensions of the case.

But the final choice is your's.

Hey Ken,
It is in fact a Purdey case because it is stamped on the inside of the lip of the case and when I pulled off the old Baize, in pencil it is written on the wood on the bottom. It is hard to see in the pictures. You can make out the (PUR) before the shadows cover up the rest of the name. Has the name clearly written as well as the original configuration of the case itself It held two 30"barrels and one 28" barrel. it also has other numbers on the case suggesting the the original serial number of the two gun set?? Your guess is as good as mine. 22899 and 164484??
