So, the example Josh has pictured looks most like Greener's "Silver Steel."

This is Laminated Steel; Top: c. 1874 Lifter marked "Laminated Steel"; each tube is stamped 'L' ahead of the barrel flats.
Bottom: c. 1870s W&C Scott hammer gun.
Refinished by Brad Bachelder.

This is Greener's "Silver Steel" which was a Laminated Steel variant

3 Iron with a definite 'rosette'
