What type of damascus pattern is this? What is the name of this pattern? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
|
Josh, I think its more a laminated composite rather than Damascus. Let's see what Drew says.

I enhanced the image a bit
http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../413008313.jpg and believe they are the same as this 1878 Grade 4 Lifter and called "Lutticher Toncin"; a Herringbone variant http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../400526667.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../400518023.jpg We've had this discussion off and on in the past regarding similar barrels which were labeled "Laminated Steel' BTW: I'll have a table in Vegas near you Parker fellas and would be happy to 'read' patterns for anyone. |
"Gold towel guy's" Grade 5 top; Grade 4 bottom

Definitely Laminated of some sort Josh - What make of gun is it on? What year of manufacture or if a Parker, serial number range?
If it is a Parker in the late 1870's - early 1880's look for a P stamped where the barrel steel is normally stamped. However, it looks to me more like the Laminated Steel that Parker Bros imported beginning in the late 1880's into the late 1890's. . |
We've had this conversation ;)

So, the example Josh has pictured looks most like Greener's "Silver Steel."

This is Laminated Steel; Top: c. 1874 Lifter marked "Laminated Steel"; each tube is stamped 'L' ahead of the barrel flats.
Bottom: c. 1870s W&C Scott hammer gun. Refinished by Brad Bachelder. http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../389244643.jpg This is Greener's "Silver Steel" which was a Laminated Steel variant http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../256132943.jpg 3 Iron with a definite 'rosette' http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../407276187.jpg |
Hi guys- the gun is an early C Grade Lefever.
|
Thanks Josh. This is Morris Baker's C grade Lefever
http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../315129166.jpg It's a very similar pattern called "Corche" http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../315129162.jpg |
