I just saw this. I had a similar problem on 2 Spanish doubles. In both cases the push rod was screwed in to the bolt too far (bad fitting!). The button on the end of the rod would bottom out before the bolt was clear of the barrel lug. The fix was to unscrew the rod a turn or two. I fixed one by making a new rod and properly fitting it. I believe blue Loctite fixed the other. In any case do not pry the forend off as this can lead to disaster (don't ask how I know this).
