Craig: you should have the First Type (disc & pin) Barrel Check, used 1884-1900 on extractor guns.

They do tend to get gunked up, but removal for cleaning is a challenge

David Williamson on the LCSCA site could help

Yes that's what it looks like before taking it apart . My gunsmith buddy will get into it Monday I think . I'm hoping its just dirty in there . I haven't figured out how to get on the LC forum short of becoming and LC Assoc member !

It's a First Style Reinforcing Wedge. The earliest example found to date is an 1893 A1 with damascus barrels. It is possible that the wedge was added at a later date.
Scroll about 1/2 way down here for other examples, and I added your image

David Williamson on the LCSCA site has a better DOM list for Syracuse and early Fulton guns.

BTW: the barrels are Laminated Steel and the rough forged tubes were from Birmingham; note the Provisional Proof mark.

Well then my gun seriel numbers to 1890 so now I have the earliest known

Thanks that link was helpfull !

I thought the barrels were more of a twist rather then damascus !

Actually I snapped the left barrel firing pin last night . So at the moment I need to replace the firing pin , replace the spring in the forend and figure out why the extractor won't stay up even though "it appears" that everythings there and intact !
