Hoping to learn of the weather and shooting conditions at Deep River. How is the attendance this year? Any good deals on Parkers or other guns yet? How about some pictures??

Please fill us in.

Dean here's the deal- The weather is better than where we are because it's their weather not ours, The attendance is 100% of everyone who is there except those of us who arn't there...we know who we are. There are always deals on Parkers and there good deals because we arn't there to experience them. This is like the Woodcock flights...you should have been here yesterday.

All in all we wish we were there not where we are but we are here and that's the way it is Fri. April 24:(

My son and I went today and just got home.  It was about 90 degrees.  The layout of the event is better this year with concessions and exhibit/vendor setups. It did not appear that there were as many PGCA/LCSmith folks in attendance compared with last year, although that may change tomorrow. Saw lots of Parkers for sale at high prices. The one that blew my hair back was the Parker Steel-barreled PH 10 gauge.  The LC Smith boys aren't playing fair this year.  They have three very attractive young ladies shooting.

I had good sales at the gunshow today, moved some absolute and utter crap that I'd had laying around forever. Picked up a horde of short 10 gauge shells as well, that really made my afternoon. I'm sorta sorry I didn't go south this year but making money instead of spending it does feel pretty good. Hopefully sales of utter and absolute crap will be brisk again tomorrow and I'll feel even better about not going to Sanford.

P.S. Was that steel barrel PH 10 gauge the one Cobb had? If so, I looked at it down there last year. Was a nice gun, the price made me glad I bought my magnum several years ago.

Greetings from Sanford 09.  I just woke up early after a deep sleep, probably induced by ninety degree heat of the day, plus that humongous filet, baked potato, and salad at The Flame.   The thermometer in the car actually read 48 early in the morning, and 90 at four o'clock in the afternoon.
It is a nicer set-up this year.  What was the upper five stand, is all vender tents now.  Lots of guns, but I saw no bargains, yet.  The Dove Field has two Five Stand's now.  One for practice rounds, and one for qualifying.  I shot my usual mediocre to bad.  I worked my way up to 16 out of 30 in practice, then choked with 11 on the real deal.  Oh well, its all in the fun of shooting antique guns and just being here.
I remembered the camera late in the day.  Here's a few pics.

Richard:  Your description of the Southern reminds me of Anthony's description of the crocodile to Lepidus in Anthony and Cleopatra.  It is as long as itself.  Great fun!  One of these years I'll make it.

I wish I was at the Southern as it has rained here all day and is threatening to do the same tomorrow.

In the spirit of the Southern I attended a gun show and adopted a rifle as I have bought at least one gun on each trip to Deep River. I also came face to face with my Holy Grail of Parkerdom a VHE .410 skeet configured gun is wonderfull 100% original condition:D. Now what about that second mortage:?.

I don't think I can sell enough blood for the payments on a 410.....perhaps a kidney?

Richard - Was that the Novi show?  Who had the gun?  Was it Tom Huisinga or Eric Warren?

Well boys... I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I just checked the Smith site and team LC Smith won the challenge :? Preliminary score was posted at 222-185. Congratulations to Team LC Smith and I hope they enjoy their victory. I am gonna drown my sorrows at the gun club with a couple of Parkers and a great trout stream this evening. ;)

Dean- Can you invest some of that 401 K money with me?  As much as I like the little guns to sell off a bunch of the M70's or a cherished Parker 20GA I'll have to ponder that possibility:?.

I was in attendance yesterday and it was hot to say the least. The overall attendance at the Southerm was very good but in my opinion there was not as many people from either the Parker or LC Smith gun collectors association as last year. Gun prices seemed to be high but that has been the norm here of late. It seemed that there were alot more LC Smith's for sale than Parkers.

After the first round Team Parker was down 26 birds, that is alot to overcome.

Congratulations to Team LC Smith as they shot very well!!  Hopefully they celebrated too much last night so Team Parker can win the Hammer Gun event today.

Oh yea, the three lovely young ladies that tried out for Team LC Smith were the hit of the day based on the amout of pictures that were taken yesterday.

I just can't bring myself to do that Rich. I know you're a lot like me in that you're going to want to keep that pretty lil' thing until the day you die and if some of my investment money is in it . . . well, like Meatloaf said "And now I'm prayin' for the end of time" (yours, that is) and I just like you to much than to wish for your untimely demise :(
