From the Flying Geese catalog:

" various weights and lengths; drop 2 to 3 1/4 inches; stock, 13 1/2 to 14 1/2 inches."

And a person could order non catalog dimensions.

Richard, Your stock could have been cut, or it originally had a pad. Hard to say but a good period pad is not a bad choice at this stage of the game. I think you now understand the complexity of the skeleton butt plate restoration. You may wish to undertake this but it will take some time and some expense.
Your choice! The purists would wish you to undertake the brave road and restore the gun to what it may previously looked. No advise from me just a pragmatic fellow summing things up. David

David, Thanks for the input. I'm getting the research letter and then I should know what it was originally. I am kind of a purist myself and would like to see it as new. I will make that call when the time comes. I had no idea the quality of Parkers to justa few months ago. I have a 1916 L.C. Smith that I have had for years and had done some research on it. I love the craftsmanship from that era.

Skeleton plate, recoil pad?

Recoil pad, skeleton plate?

So hard to decide.

Decisions.

I have a skeleton plate for a good friend's gun 16ga C, which will go to the stockist when he gets a few more guns off his workbench. That skeleton plate took a while to find.

Of the two guns shown here, the one with the pad went back to Parker to have the pad installed and the safety added. I still have the original red/black sponge Jostam pad the factory put on but its all dried out and collapsed. I tried to find a new old spare Jostam sponge pad  and finally did, but it turned out to fit a small butt gun, not this one, so I did the next best thing and had Briley's put on a Silvers.
