At some point when I have time, maybe I'll do another comparision. The present comparision was intended to contrast no or little case colors remaining against a certain restored case color style. My thoughts are that the second gun was not the better for the re-case color and the action frame showed buffing and loss of detail. The loss of detail was most noticeable in the top down photo showing the top frame tang. That is an area that normally gets little or no use wear. I probably should have used a little D grade I have, also no case colors remaining, because its easy to get distracted by the interesting engraving on the C 20 and that was not my intention.
There are some techniques of re case coloring that people are using that are excellent. Maybe we can do a sequence comparing high original Parker case colors against re-case colors so people can make their own decisions about how true to Parker they are and so they can determine which they prefer. I have a couple around that are like new in box and its nice to see what they are supposed to be like. Muderlak called that a benchmark gun.
I favor the minimalist approach but that's just me. Tom Flanigan says it better than I do.
My son's old high school baseball team is playing for the state championship late afternoon today so we are off in Springfield MO waiting for the game to start. They won last night in a squeaker 3-2. Think I'll shoot a round of sporting clays at Ozark Shooters by Branson. If you haven't shot there , its a great course with nice people, open and along a ridge line.

I checked this gun against the serialization book. It originally came with a capped pistol grip stock and now has a pieced together straight stock. The ad says it has 30" barrels, the book says it's original barrels were 30" but the picture of the end of the barrel shows the engraving going to the end of the barrel. Just a couple of things that don't add up and perhaps need further checking which could result in even further price reduction. This gun must have been owned by the same person that had the single barrel trap Parker in the same store in that the trap gun also has a pieced together stock much like the C grade. Just my 2 cents worth which isn't even worth that.....Carl Beers

Derrick the CHE at Cabelas was once owned by a fellow PGCA member who traded it towards an English gun. I know what Cabellas has into the gun for "trade value" and believe me they are still coming out well .
I have a couple of high conditions Parkers which I still shoot and hunt with. I enjoy the guns and don't worry to much about a little case color wear or fading. I also have a few that have no case color on them and or some of the stock varnish has worn off. These guns show honest but carefull wear from being used as they were meant to be. I would no more think of haveing them refinished than I would go bird hunting without my dog.

Rich,
Yes I know who the previous owner was of the CHE at Cabelas. You have the inside track at Cabelas too. If I could get it at cost I know I don't have that much put away.
I will agree with you on refinishing a gun but I will admit I had Dale do a set of barrels for me about a year ago. I got a good deal on a DHE that had some minor pitting on the barrels were it had been stored in a case. I don't think that I would ever re-case color a gun, I myself like the gray patina on an old gun.
Why have it if you can't shoot it??
