Lon,  Ed Muderlak's Parker The Old Reliable is a good overview at about $50. The Parker Story at about $300 is the bible for Parker collectors and is indispensible.  See the links page for both. I personally have both, plus the Baer and Johnson books. If you come to Denver for the CGCA show in May, I'll bring them and you can see for yourself.

I'll also bring the complete Parker Pages (PP) collection. Its a tremendous reference body and many questions asked are covered in the PP's.

Lon,

In addition to those Bruce listed you will also want a copy of the "Parker Gun Identification & Serialization", Peter Johnson's book "Parker America's Finest Shotgun" and Larry Baer's "The Parker Gun". That will get your bookshelf off to a good start. There are also a number of Parker articles in the Double Gun Journal. If you can find one on ebay you may want to get a reprint of the Parker Showroom catalog that was reprinted by Baer, as well as reprints of other Parker catalogs. Now your ready for a second bookshelf :-)

I'm bringing to Denver a Baer Repro of the NY salesman's catalog and working on Charlie to bring the 1936 Remington Salesman's catalog( 5 known). Both are large format, lavishly illustrated.  There were 500 NY showroom reprints made and once in a while one becomes available. If you are into Parkers, they are a prize. They are signed and numbered. I have some catalogs I'll bring, some original, some reprints.

Lon,

On gun broker was Larry Baers Parker book. You can go other websights and find The Parker Story for a couple of hundred dollars which is a very worthwhile investment. Safari Press is the publisher of Ed Muderlaks Parker Guns-The Old Reliable. They can be reached at 800-451-4788. Ed's book is $49.99 plus shipping.

I just looked on http://www.gunbroker.com at the top of the page search parker and Larry Baer's book is there for $45 and The two volume set the Parker Story is available for $330. School is now in session;).

Bruce, is it a fact that there are only five known Remington/Parker salesman's portfolios?  I have seen some sold over the years, some in recent auctions.  Do we assume that some are just being recirculated or can there be more?  Pat McKune's example sat for many years on his website at a reasonable price, unsold.  I think he finally sold it.  Why the lack of interest in such a rare item?

Thats my understanding and I'm trying to remember the source of the statement, I think either Baer or TPS. Note I said "known", there could be more extant, but not generally known. I haven't counted them and don't know who has them all.  I have seen the one and its a fascinating piece of Parker history, and includes the whole Remington line, but not really providing more information than the 1936 "skilled hands" catalog.  If you have the Rem Parker salesman's catalog , I'd love to talk.

I have no clue why people are not generally interested, but you know many Parker collectors are content with the lower end of the Parker gun spectrum only and not into paper and the lore.

Are you aware of more and who owns them?

You mean my granddaughter will not go to school on the proceeds from my coffee grinders?  Julia (I think it was) sold a salesman's portfolio not too long ago.  I thought the price was not too much out of line.  We may see a lot of "stuff" at the annual meeting.  I saw a "Clown" and a "wood duck poster" at a recent show.  Mr. Ubrich offered a bunch of posters for sale several years ago at a local show.  Our collector base is aging and just about everything Parker will be sold in the next twenty years.  Cheap?  I don't know about that.

Bill, even those squirrel posters EDM reprinted are scarce and rising in value. Get your 2008 Parker calendar quickly at the Southern or those will be gone too. We only made 250 and there will not be enough to go around. But still, the majority of our members don't seem to have a lot of interest in paper.

Weren't the EDM Sharkey posters very small, not actual replicas?  I don't even remember him marketing them.  I try to buy one of everything.

Bill , they were not full size posters, but still nice sized. If you back to the Des Moines Pheasant Forever display thread, I hung a Muderlak squirrel poster on the back wall and you can see it in the photos, and I think its also in the upcoming Parker Pages. EDM had a quality print made and I think I bought one of the last ones. Its becoming collectible.

Paul,

The Parker Story is now being sold by the Double Gun Journal. There is a link on the Dealers Page in the publication section. It will lead you to this page:

http://doublegunshop.com/doublegunjournal.htm

There doesn't appear to be a way to order the Parker Story online, so you will want to call the phone number listed on the site

Paul,

TPS is/was listed on gunbroker.com. Type Parker in the search item and it should come up.

I can't remember whether one of the recent auctions included a Sharkey poster among the other rare items, but I would assume an original would be $5000.00 or better, whether calendar or poster version.  Any other opinions?

I think EDM was selling his reprints for $20 if memory serves. He's back in the country, just had email from him yesterday. Don't know of he's planning on making the Southern or not. I know he's got big running around plans in the East for the next few weeks.

Realized price on this P Calendar was $5,355 about a year ago... That's almost 4 good Clowns!

Chasing the old paper, it can get a tad expensive...;)

Bill, I heard several thousand for an original Sharkey....lot of money. You might contact EDM, but I think he is long sold out. I was happy with the reproduction and the cost to have a few Parker things.

Almost as nice as the "Wood Duck" poster displayed by Kevin McCormack at the Baltimore Show last month.  I hope Kevin took pictures of his great "Parker Paper" display as he normally does.  This was Kevin's tenth year of displaying Parkers and Parker related items at this show.
