I collected this the other day. Mint condition, smooth as silk.

If you'd ever see my apartment you'd know that I value collecting things too, even at my tender 36 years.
I wasn't trying to get in your business, I was just speaking about a point that oftentimes bugs me about gun people.
I've laid in the mud shooting geese with a shotgun that I've probably been offered more for than what you paid for that .410 VHE so I can speak on this topic.
Anyway, end of rant. I don't wanna get into this if somebody is going to fly off the handle.
Destry
P.S. Frank just send that reel to me, I'll put it on my Orvis spinning rod and catch some smallmouth.Last edited on Wed Apr 12th, 2006 08:02 pm by Destry Hoffard

Perhaps my attitude is the best.... I'll shoot any gun I own, even if one were an Invincible. But even if it is a ratty VH I take the approach that the gun comes first and when I put it back in its case it is no worse for the wear. No scratches or dings allowed. No putting it on any surface that could cause wear or damage.
I'd lie in the mud with it, but it would be on my chest touching nothing other than my metal-button-free jacket.

Greg,
I don't suppose you wanna hear about how I had to clean the mud out of the engraving then?
We some good shoots but we all got a little dirty, including the guns.

It's grade a, Italian made just like me. Unlike me it has naval bronze gears and it's worm gear driven, ring and pinion baby. Oh, and I will be fishing with it soon. A little slime never hurt anything.

Ok I will chime in here. As Destry says I do take some of my high condition guns out and shoot them or hunt with them, that being said it is only on sunny days and if hunting areas where they will not get marked up. I truely enjoy those days. Yes I do have one gun that I have not fired, because it is unfired and new in it's box, I don't feel I have the right to shoot that on. But it I could shoot doves (in Michigan you can't) on a nice September day you bet I would... Eric

I'm not saying you should lay in the mud with a 99% skeet gun. I'm just saying they all deserve to be fired occasionally, even if it's at clay birds.
Not new in the box stuff of course, I can well understand that.

Frank, I have an Orvis 100 reel like that, bought new by my father in the 1950's. Great craftsmanship and detail. I'll take it north this July for fishing in the Minn-Canada Boundary Waters. Taking a Boy Scout group up. Occasionally the boys squabble, being only 14 and 15, but they all like each other and they come away the better for it. Oh I didn't know you were still an active Scouter!!!
Very cool, best years of my life were spent Scouting. I was even a Camp Ranger for a year back in my early 20's. Got my Eagle in 1985 during the 75th Anniversary.
Wish I could say I was still active today. But I keep my membership up being a Council Member At Large. Got my 20 year pin a few years ago.
If we've talked about this before and I've forgotten please forgive me.
