Yes I am still around. Learned that the auction was stopped by reading this forum. I have visited  this forum for about nine months to try to learn more about Parkers. I joined and posted about the barrels because when looking at the parts section it seems someone is always looking for barrels and provided a heads up. As I stated in my initial post I have no financial interest in the auction.

Believe that I examined these bbls at an OGCA show within the last year. They were on a table with a VHE 20 ga skeet gun and they fit the O frame.  At that time they sort of went with the 20 ga.  Whoever owns them now got a good appraisal.

Frank & Greg, How often dose the opportunity to buy an original, new, unused set of light weight 30" barrels that could be fitted to your favorite 16 or 20 gage Parker come along. Most things in life fall into one of two categories needs or wants. When an item falls into the latter even the most rational person will occasionally make an irrational decision. I really wish this auction ran its course, as I believe some irrational decisions would have been made. Larry

Gordon, what do you mean by a "good appraisal"? I haven't seen anything that would indicate an appraised value, other than the bids that were made on Ebay.

I don't know much but I can add:

barrels                                                                    3500 to 4000 the way it was going

having gunsmith fit them to your gun                      god knows how much

refinishing from machine work to fit                         ?

total                                                                          !!!!!!!

I still don't get it.

Dean;  I mean there was a lot of exposurer and a lot of bids and whoever owns them has a good idea what he can expect to get for them.  But I bet he already knew what they were worth before they were put on E=bay.

When I posted my opinion about the auction, I used the word "greedy" rather than "unethical" to describe the situation because I realized that my old buddy Don was the high bidder at $2025 the last time I looked.  Now that I hear that Don is not the culprit, I will go back to my original term "unethical".  At one time, I accused a Parker paper dealer and collector of unethical behavior and violation of ebay rules when he stole an item from me on which I was high bidder.  We had an email exchange that confirmed my feelings about his ethics.  I printed the email exchange for future reference.  I don't think he knew who I was (from my ebay name), although he does know me.  However, the email exchange did expose his identity and I will be waiting for my chance to even the score.  The barrel thing is only my second bad experience with ebay buyers and sellers.  Who bid on the "Parker Store Sign" recently?   It must have been bogus since the price was very reasonable.  Anyone know?

On off on and off again, the auction ended early because the seller discovered 5 "dings" in the "new" barrels, item relisted then ended again 45 minutes later.

It wasn't me but I was prepared to pay serious money for them and had bid such...to paraphrase Woody Allen's rapid fire cliches in "Love & Death", "A fool and his money are soon parted. Ah! but fortune favors the brave!"...I have done more foolish things with my money...And Bill, I have searched the Canon of Ethics and relevant case law and can find no reference prohibiting lawyers from acquiring Parker barrels. In fact, in the case of Murphy v. McCormack, 1 Meriden Law Reports 1878, a young Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote, "Not withstanding what I wrote about crying "Fire" in a crowded theater in a prior case, when a group of otherwise civilized people are faced with the opportunity to buy a set of spare O frame Parker barrels, it's every man for himself and Katy bar the door!"

I would have joined the high bidders, but I was just starting to catch my breath after seeing Don's bid when the left barrel started to fade from my screen.

It's okay Bill, it's okay. There, there. That was the barrel with the elliptical muzzle.

This thread has been a tremendous education. Much can be learned about the world of online auctions and the different personalities involved...

Don K, Don't bid too much $$ on those used barrels, remember the advice you once gave me: - "Parker barrels from one gun rarely if ever fit another without a lot of work if they can be fit at all."

This ebay thing looks kind of fun, I might have to give it a whirl sometime... ;)

Somehow I think Chris' post is a bit tongue in cheek.

Don't forget you can get barrels from Tony for less.  Granted not "original" Meriden barrels but undoubtedly superior metallurgy.

I'm as puzzled as the rest of you. My email to the seller has been unanswered.
