I am going to throw an idea out and see if there is interest. The PGCA is financially doing very well and we are always considering what additional benefits we can provide to members.
I have recently received 2006 calendars from the Winchester Collectors Association, and Trout Unlimited, as well as others. So , what do you think about a PGCA calendar, idea would be to have gun pictures, a variety of pristine to favorite worn shooters, from skeet gun exhibits to Old Clunker with pheasant. From grandpa's 1890 G Dam2 to the latest Rem Parker AAHE. I can see a member standing with favorite gun in hand. Sorry Destry, no big bodied beauties with strategically held Parkers.
So, would this be useful, or simply a throwaway?

A PGCA Calendar is a grest idea. Would be desired by membership and a profitable venture for the PGCA.

Depending on cost, I would suggest it be free to members, included with the fall PP. To me a key point would be that the photos reflect the entire interest spectrum.

The PGCA is turning into the Federal Govt. -never leave a surplus unspent. Two chickens in every pot and a calendar on the wall...Why don't you lower lower the cost of member's Research Letter's instead?

The Calender is a great idea, and I would buy several. Another question, some time back a discussion about a bound Parker Pages issue was being discussed. Can you give me a update? Is there a feasible way to do this?
Regards,

Fantastic idea! I'll buy one in a heartbeat, maybe even one for home and one for the office.

Absolutely! A new PGCA Calendar each year with twelve interesting and/or special Parkers. Each year could be a different theme e.g., small gauges; high grade hammer guns; a year of fine damascus; game guns with their birds; PGCA Members at last year's shoots or events; Participants of the PGCA vs. L.C. Smith competition and their "weapon of choice", and so on, and so on... this could be the start of something very collectible and memorable to members.
Go for it!

Good idea Bruce,
I made a similar "Calendar" suggestion to Charlie Herzog this past January, but did not hear back from him...
I look forward to seeing the finished product...

Bruce,
I advanced this idea literally YEARS ago to the BOD - what with all the great photos - already taken by guys like me who did the work to get published articles in SSM and DGJ - it is a natural!!! No cost to PGCA and publishing rights literally given away by amatuer authors - a real no brainer! What with the state of the art of computer graphics today we could do it in-house even.
People like the Vintagers with their Concours Calendar and Tony G with his assorted wonder-gun calendar have done it routinely. Why is this idea only now being given real consideration by the Board? We have become like Parker Bros. themselves - great imitators & duplicators but damned poor innovators. Let's think of some way to return some of this surplus wealth to the general membership, including the guys who have supported this thing from the very beginning. KBM

Thanks all for the feedback. We have no intention of turning into the federal government, even if it were possible. And I don't understand the analogy between seeing if members would appreciate and use an interest calendar in comparision to one or even two chickens in a pot. Maybe a pheasant in a pot, but not a chicken.
We do have a surplus because the organization is successful and management has been fiscally conservative. We intend to maintain that. We are now at 870 paid members thanks to the substantial efforts of Tom Wooden and Dan Houghton. The research letter program is doing well, thanks to the unpaid efforts of Mark Conrad. Mark is a wonderful resource and answers many "must know this very instant" calls and emails without doing a letter and charge. The paid letter is often the follow up to helpful research done by Mark in aid of a member seeking to purchase. On the average, $40 pays for a lot more than a simple letter.
A calendar, particularly a "free" one , would dent the surplus, but only in a minor way. I think with this feedback, the topic is worthy of further discussion and we will address it. As to the Gaddy memorial compilation of Parker Pages, Austin Hogan is working on that. I don't know how far he is along. I don't think a calendar takes much work to do, its a pretty standard format, all we have to do is take and select the photos. Too lat efor 2006, the earliest would be 2007.

I believe that the calender would have a much better chance of reality if the BOD had a couple of volunteers to spearhead the project.

Instead of giving it away free why not sell it and use the money to donate in the memory of Oscar. Eric

Bruce,
Hi,
I believe I mentioned to you when I introduced myself the other day that I am a commercial printer by trade in Louisville. I do quite a few calendars and many Fortune 500 type print projects.
I'm sure you may have local contacts in the print trade but if it would be helpful from a budgeting standpoint I can easily run some quote numbers to produce a high quality full color calendar so you know what your up against.
IMHO- Whoever did Tony Galazans is to be complimented!
