Chris ,Here are a couple of a 1902 DH 12 Ga. ,the old girl shows nearly no case colors any where ,and is as tight as brand new , I don't think the screws have ever been turned ! Russ

Thanks Russ. I wish mine looked that good! I made a new set, I have to find someone to engrave them for me, then I have to figure out how to get them to grey so they match the rest of the gun. Any suggestions??

Chris ,You're welcome and Thank you , I believe some one posted here just a few weeks ago about a lady that does very nice engraving ,I would think that for an engraver ,screws would be quite simple to do . Maybe someone else will remember the post I am referring to ? As for graying ,maybe Blue them or have them case colored and tone them down with a little 0000 Steel Wool ,or a little Flitz polish till they match ??? Russ

Thanks Dave, right here in Connecticut too! I have some flitz, I'll give that a try. My second thought was to try Brownell's french grey, it's some kind of fine blasting media that is supposed to dull the metal without degrading the engraving. I'll keep you guys posted about how it turns out.
Thanks all, Chris |

Chris ,Go very easy with the Flitz ,man it really removes some color quickly ,I once had a little VHE 28 ,with a very heavy Tiger Striping of Cyanide Colors ," It Looked Terrible " it took a very short time and light pressure to remove about 70 % of the striping ! The gun looked much better ,just a word of caution ! Bruce D. put me onto it ,it has been quite a while ago I don't know if he will remember or not , it really does work well ,you just have to have a light hand ! Russ
