Default 28 ga. GH on gunbroker

Some professional input in this gun please. Gunbroker item # 264902231 GH 28 ga started life as a damascus 28 ga. Worth the price?? Thanks Jim

You would have to determine whether the Damascus barrels are under the blue or not. If they are still under there, the gun is a rare gun with cut barrels in need of quite a bit of work. If the barrels are sleeved, the gun has no value.

Sorry, I put a correction on my post when I looked closer at the picture, but the correction did not post. My final comment on my edit was "The price is off the scale."

114514 is not in the compilation of 28-gauge serial numbers in The Parker Story.

The "compilation" section in the Appendix is not very reliable, in my experience. Just today, I checked two graded eight gauges whose total production figures did not agree from the "Grades" section, compared to the Serialization Book, further compared to the Appendix compilation. I can understand that the Grades section is adjusted for missing books, but the Serialization Book and the Appendix compilation is compiled from the same source, the Stock Books. We just have to remember that the volume of the work eliminates any chance for perfection. The Parker Story is still the greatest gun book ever written.

That sleeving line looks pretty far forward, doesn't it? It looks like "Special" was added after grinding off "Damascus" or something on the rib. Do all the 28's have that much steel at the breeches? Maybe it was a rebarreled 20ga. Whatever it is/was it does seem pretty high priced.
