Default Extension Blending

Is there anyone out there other than Mark Larsen doing extension blends/grain enhancement?

Dennis Earl Smith, The Stock Doctor, did one for me. Most people don't know there is an extension on the stock. Even if I point it out, it's hard to see.

He sets up at the Southern, his work is good.

Chatting with him in April he was 1 year turn around on work at that time.

Heard back from Dennis and he quoted 2500$ said it’s 25 hours of work. Seems pretty steep. At that point I would probably just go in for a restock.

This is an example of an extension performed by Dennis on an LCS Crown grade. I could tell you where it is but that would take the fun out of it.

Dennis is going to cost nearly double Marks pricing and probably take nearly 2X as long in my experience. He's worth the money and the wait IMO. Nothing against Mark, I have used them both. Each of them has a niche for my tastes.

Did you tell him you already have the extension on (I assume you do)? He told me my price was cheaper because it already had an extension on. All he had to do was blend in the extension and refinish.

In my case there was a poorly executed extension on this Crown grade. Naturally one would expect a lower price for blending less actually adding the extension. BTW I am not knocking what Dennis charges, he's worth it IMO.

Hi John, I've used Mark Larson before and have been happy with results. Had a pretty quick turnaround time and price was reasonable.
My Scottish G Forrest hammer 20 has a butt extension that I have considered sending to Mark to blend in, but it looks pretty good as is, may carry it on quail tomorrow.

I’ve used Mark a couple of times; very pleased and very reasonable turn around time. He stood behind a repair that became visible after a while. I would not hesitate to use him again. Have not used Dennis so can’t comment there.

I have used Mark twice, for refiguring and blending. Reasonable and relatively quick turn around. Spoke with Dennis this past September about a split stock, he was so busy could not repair it till fall of ‘26.
