Default Rough valuation of this 16 ga VH Parker

This one sold for $1125 with the juice at an auction I was at yesterday. The bid was $900 without the juice. I bid $850, then it would have been $950 to me. It IS a 16 ga VH Parker, but I tend to rather spend more for something with more condition. 1922 production.

Not evident in the photographs are a few cracks paralleling the grain of the wood leading up from the buttplate and a poor fit of the buttplate extension, presumably due to shrinking wood.

Deal, or not?

Default Interest as well

I'm also looking for a Parker 16, I passed on a Trojan at a local auction recently for $700.00 Looking back that gun was in well used but very honest condition for it's age. Screws were all in good shape, (don't think anyone had been inside that gun) I should have bought that one. I'm looking for a shooter, not as a collector. I currently have a Fox Sterlingworth 16 that fits well and is in nice condition for my needs. I've had three Parker 12s but I'm a 16 guy at heart. Will be interested in this thread as it goes on. Those stock cracks would bother me the most.

From what I can see; $1200 to 1400 would be a good price for a gun in that condition.
I would have jumped on $950 plus the juice on it.

And me as well! Which is why I hesitated to go over $850.

A $950 bid would have been $1228.54, including sales tax. With a transfer fee of $15, you are at $1253.54. Maybe I should have bid at $950, but I didn't see this one as a $1250 plus gun. I was thinking $1200 OTD, all costs incorporated, would be the maximum. Case colouring limited as well, barrel blue not bad.

I liked the 30" barrels! That was the reason why I considered maybe going a little more...

What are your thoughts regarding the 2 or 3 longitudinal cracks emanating from the buttplate? It may be that the longest and widest of these is restrained from further lengthening (currently 2 to 3") as it is on the side of the stock, midway between both buttplate screws. This crack is what caused restraint in bidding higher on my part.

Don't ever let a gun you want go over "50 bucks!"

That has got to be the most “open” graver walk that I have seen on a VH. I am referring to the engraving.

It is hard to say what is going on with anything you see on the stock. The photos are not good enough and the butt end or top is not visible.
