Maine 2019
3 of us went to western Maine last week with a Setter and a Brittany. We took a 16ga GH,20ga VH,20ga Trojan, Win M-21 20ga, Sauer 12ga and a 12ga Browning. We had 34 woodcock flushes but only 10 grouse flushes all week. All grouse except 1 was a mature bird . We did not get a single grouse, what very few shots we had we not good. We had a good time but the grouse were a disappointment.

My experience in northern Vt has been very similar. Simply too many factors working against grouse chicks’ survival this year.
I hope there’s enough seed stock to bring it all back in the next few seasons.
