Default A Sad Turn of Events

I just received a text from the current owners of the former Davies property on Dascomb Road that they are being forced to tear down the two kennel buildings that were the home of Blue Rock Kennels and the original Skeet field - the birthplace of Skeet - due to their homeowners insurance company having cancelled. The reason - "dangerous outbuildings'.

I have to admit, even when I was allowed access to the property in 2009 when I took a lot of pictures and wrote an article in Parker Pages, they were in a sad state of repair. I had informed the owners of the historical significance of those buildings but it was apparently not in their budget to make the necessary repairs.

I just responded that I would like to buy or have the beautiful cupola from the front building but they told me it was rotted beyond repair.

I imagine a small tear on the cheeks of William Harnden Foster and the Davies men...

sad to hear

but unfortunately- history to one group may be meaningless to another

and no NE town is going to save shooting history

When someone says something like that to me, The very rearmost part of my brain takes it as a challenge. Oh, wait, that's my butt.

My daughter works with the owner and they have asked my opinion of a couple of the things they found in the attic of the kennel house. They wanted to kno if they had anything to do with Skeet shooting.

Without a National Trust for Historic Preservation - type connection or underwriting, I think they are out of luck. A similar endowment helped save artist Jackson Pollack's little farmhouse and studio on Long Island, which would have fallen in on itself long ago.

I gave them contact information for the NSSF but nobody there seemed to care very much.
