Default Friday Black Powder Clays

I had a chance to shoot my recently "new" 1874 12 ga. lifter this morning. I have been work on a few different black powder loads/combinations and everything worked well today. I have really liked the black powder shotgun loading manual PGCA member Forrest Gilley wrote. For this relatively light weight 12 lifter I kept things mild:

2 1/2 dr. of 3f
overpowder card
1 - lubed 1/4 felt wad
1- 1/4 felt wad
overshot card
7/8 oz. lead
overshot card

I Also loaded a few 1oz. loads with the same components except with 2 3/4 Dr. of 3f. That would be a nice preserve hunting load and as much as I would want to put through this 143 year old gun. For clays the 7/8oz. load worked very well. I had multiple doubles, which is just a little too much fun with black powder.

I used a mixed of Track of the Wolf brass and Magtech(just because I had some). I will be ordering some more of the "good stuff" from Track of the Wolf soon.

I also shot some RST 3/4oz. Falcon Lites that worked very well.

All in all 75 black powder shells and 75 RST's. A great day of shooting!

Jay
