Default Ejector Barrels / Rust bluing

I want to rust blue a set of 16 gauge ejector barrels. How does one remove the ejectors or is it ok to leave them in during the process? I would think it better to remove them but do not see how. Thanks for any help.

Do NOT leave them in.

The kickers are removed by pulling the small screw in the stop plate and removing the stop plate.
