Default When the top lever sits to the left

I'm working on a new to me Trojan at the moment. I have stripped it down, cleaned up everything and have been trying to figure out why the top lever sits left of center. It was that way when before I began. I have always believed that something would be visibly worn for the lever to sit to the left. All the internals look great. The bolt fits snugly but slides effortlessly. The spring engages the top lever as it should (this one has the duck bill spring) but when all is at rest, that lever sits to the left.

Could it be that is just how it is or.....???? Any hints appreciated.

Cheers,
Jack
