Default Redone AH

Picked up an AH 12 gauge the other day that was poorly redone....but it is an AH. It was an A.W. DuBray order gun as you can see in the letter. the action & DD damascus barrels are in in excellent shape. the restock , although nice looking wood...is obviously checkered wrong. it came with an extra set of barrels that they tried to pawn off as ACME but........
they are clearly VH barrels with the Vulcan ground out & rather poorly over stamped with ACME. You may have seen this gun in a Julias auction a while back. Seller claims it didn't sell. Julias won't confirm either way. It suprised me that the details got by Julias too. ( they listed it as an Acme second set )
Anyway... i now have it & someday will have it restocked to the proper specs that it should be. Meanwhile I think i'll get a set of Briley 20 gauge drop in tubes for the "ACME/VULCAN" barrels & have some fun with it!

Why get tubes ? Take it out and shoot it as is. If you're worried about pressures, get some RSTs to shoot. And that's a very nice looking gun.

If you prefer 20s I would say find a 20 rather then putting tube in a fine 12.

If it were mine I would not ruin the balance by putting 20 ga tubes in it, but that being said its not mine. Beautiful find on an AH Dwight, enjoy it and shoot it.

I had previously seen photos of this gun. A terrible shame that the checkering was butchered up beyond repair. Yikes...

That's a nice find for sure. It doesn't surprise me that the barrel markings "got past Julia's" in the least. You might consider trying some chamber mates VS full length sub gauge tubes. I love the small bores but have come to enjoy shooting a couple of my #2 frame 12's using light 1oz or even 7/8oz loads. Try them you might like them.
