Default Another lost gun saga

I had two guns with a smith in Lincoln Ca and he shipped three packages USPC on a Monday. One package, a gun case, arrived on Wed and a second . a Parker,on Thur. I waited until Monday to go to the local postmaster to inquire to its location. In tracking the packages the two delivered ones were scanned along the route and delivered fine . The third was scanned in at Lincoln but not scanned again. The local postmaster and the one in Lincoln were of no help nor interested in helping. We contacted the Postal Inspector and again no help. The smith then contacted the local ATF office and they were all over it. That first day three ATF offices,Ca, WVa and Ga were all involved and "miraculously" USPC found the gun that evening.
Scarry!!

Good to know the ATF is on our side. I will remember that.

I think when the USPS is accepting employment applications they should also do personality/behavioral screenings. You meet some of the nastiest (and some of the nicest) people at the USPS and the Dept. of Motor Vehicles.

I'm glad you got the gun! Did you receive it in good condition?

I wouldn't say the ATF is on our side - normally - but it's nice to see they got in the post offices sh** and found your gun.

The mention of ATF can make a difference, I once left two guns for repair with a person that is now deceased, grhs, called me several months later to tell me they had been stolen while he was at a restaurant, a 28 ga and a 16g a, he said you do have insurance don,t you? I hung the phone up mad as hell, and called him back, told him to get a police report so I could report it to the ATF, He called me back in a few minutes to tell me he was only joking, Yea, he had really sold them! and I finally got them back, the mention of ATF did it, Gary

I had thought they were one more government agency out to make the lives of those they were supposed to protect miserable. Always nice to know there are exceptions

David,
I'm glad it worked out well for you in the end. I know it's been discussed over and over here and there are horror stories for each of the major shipping outlets but I've had the best luck shipping UPS second day air. I do not ship over the weekend as I don't want that package sitting anywhere and I want signatures all along the way. I just had a gun picked up in Texas at noon on Tuesday and it arrived at my FFL today at noon. The key is making sure it moves quickly and anyone who touches it has to sign his/her name. Maybe I've just been lucky but that's what has worked for me.

For those contemplating firearms service, purchase or anything else, I offer only one word of caution and warning: "California."

I'm glad to hear you got your gun back and hopefully safe and sound.

I bought a NOS Ford door handle for my Mustang a few weeks ago. When the USPS package arrived it was torn apart and covered with USPS tape, the tape was also half torn off again. I looked into the hole at the end of the box and I could see into an empty Ford box with no parts in it. USPS told me "Maybe if there was more bubble wrap in the box, the parts wouldn't have fallen out when it was torn apart. There is nothing we can do, call the shipper and file a complaint with them." Zero effort.
