Remington high brass

A friend keeps giving me once fired 12ga Remington high brass buckshot hulls. So I decide to load a few. With my normal load for Remington hulls the shot sits way down in and melted wax is needed to close up the hole in the crimp. So I cut one open down near the brass and find it's a straight walled hull. I thought all Remington hulls were tapered - learn something new every day.

I think their high brass ribbed hulls have always been untapered. I started reloading them with the old fiber wads and hand tools in the early 60's.

Paul as far as I know the only Remington shells that are tapered are the compression formed NITRO, later RXP and Gun Club target loads. The early RXP, Express and Promotional Field loads are all straight Reifehouser design hulls.

The STS, Nitro, and Gun Club [ black or green ] are all tapered, about all I ever see - don't know about the RXP. What's a Promotional Field hull ?

Remington Game Loads sold primarily at big box and discount stores.

Well, I just cut a Remington game load and mine are a taper hull. Maybe yours say something else on the hull.

Actually Paul the game load is considered a straight wall as opposed to the compression formed hull which is a true tapered wall hull. The illusion of riefenhouser straight wall of the Game load is cause by the deep skiving (internal opening) of the case mouth of the Game Load hull.

I'm missing something. What does the mouth being skived have to do with the rest of the hull? A Federal wad will not fit as far down into the base as a Remington wad. My CB Federal wads mic .030 bigger than the Rem wads. So I have to believe the Rem hull is tapered down at the base.
