Default New Hunter Success

Last year was her first season hunting deer and came close but couldn't close the deal. This year in her second time out my 15 year old granddaughter Julia harvested this really nice CT buck. It dressed out at 158 pounds which is very respectable in our area. The coolest part is that she shot it with the same 30-30 lever action Marlin that her brother, father, and grandfather all shot their first deer with. I have three more grandchildren living in Texas and haven't decided if when they are old enough I will send the gun there or have their first deer hunt here in CT.

She's a cute kid. It's a good thing she got Gramp's gun, but Deb's genes.

It's good to see a teenager that's willing to get up at 4:30 in the morning and go out in 22 degree weather to hunt. She was not to excited when her father told her they would approach their stand from the bottom and had about 200 feet of elevation to overcome in the dark but the short 20 minute sit made all that go away. Her only complaint was she wanted to stop at Cabelas and pick up some warmer socks before they go out again.
