Happy independence Day

At the close of the Constitutional Convention of 1787, Benjamin Franklin was queried as he left Independence Hall on the final day of deliberation

some one asked

“Well, Doctor, what have we got—a Republic or a Monarchy?”

Franklin relied

“A Republic, if you can keep it.”

Thanks for posting that video Pete. Kate Smith was one of my father's favorite singers. Seeing that brought back some good memories. Thanks.

Thanks for the Kate Smith video. My Mother and Father were both proud to say they were high school classmates with her. My Father is no longer with us but he served through WW2 and was also proud to have served with Gen. Patton, he would have enjoyed that video. I served a while and my duffle bag is still packed. Thanks to all my fellow veterans and always remember the fallen who didn't make it back. God Bless you all.

Charlie, I started the day on my John Deere putting my driveway back from the 3 inches of rain last night not from the hurricane but from a cold front that came through last night . But I started the day by putting a Brisket on the grill at 8 o'clock for a slow 7 hr cooking had that a good salad and some home made biscuits, and opened a bottle of our home made wine, shared this with my brother and his wife, a really good day, you should get out that old eight gauge Parker and do some of your on " bombs bursting in air" Gary

Charlie,

Glad to see the words INDEPENDENCE DAY. I went to a car show today and had to listen to the DJ say Happy July 4th about a hundred times over six hours, never once calling it Independence Day.

My ancestor John Morris who joined the Continental Army at age 17, for reasons we will never know and probably could not understand today, never did much that would be considered heroic (guarded Hessian prisoners for two years and deployed to the field only twice), but he and thousands more gained our declared INDEPENDENCE.
