Thank you guys for a quick response. This shotgun that I am looking to buy this week appears to fit the description the above members provided. The barrels and receiver appear to not have ever been re-blued. I believe the stock has been refinished. It has also had a different buttplate installed. Does anyone know how the stock refinishing aftermarket buttplate will affect value? And is it possible to locate an original matching buttplate to re-fit onto the stock?

Again, thanks for all of your help.

Chris ,A # 3 Grade probably left Meriden with a Skeleton Plate ,If this gun has a pad ,it could be correct ,possibly a letter would be your key for finding out the info. you seek ! You are able at times to find a correct Skeleton Plate " seldom cheap " but the fitting, checkering and finishing is quite expensive ,to have a pad fit is probably one fourth the cost of the Skeleton Plate unless you are able to do the work required ! As for the value ,if the gun left the factory with the Skeleton Plate ,it would directly affect the value , especially if the gun has high condition otherwise ! Best ; Russ
