Default California Doves.

Up until yesterday here in the greater Sacramento area, we saw lots of doves flying around grain fields, pecking turkey mullein on the road sides, and drinking at shallow water holes. That was yesterday.

Clouds arrived with cool temps, so birds are huddled in groups and flighty as hell. We have a sunflower field next to a shallow wetland bordered by a gravelly creek with half dead trees for roost....and precious few dove.

My guests are probably wondering why I'm not shooting. Someone has to go to the store for lunch supplies as there won't be many doves to eat.

How's everyone else faring so far?

Default Good results in Porterville

Scouted last evening with as many as 7 flushing out of a tree.
Good flights of birds for the first hour this morning with passing shots until about 9:30. Lots of Eurasians.

There were 100s in my field this weekend. Looks like it will be as good a season as ever
