Default Ammo to California

Can anyone tell me how to find out if I can legally ship ammo to a family member in California?

You need to declare what is in the package to stay out of trouble. Then the carrier can tell you what they can deliver. Check with UPS or USPS.

If it's powder or primers then it requires a HazMat fee. If it's loaded in a shell then no HazMat. But into California, only the carrier can tell you what they can do.

My understanding is the post office will not deliver live ammunition but UPS and FedEx will. It has to be in boxes and not simply loose ammunition as in a coffee can. But yes, it can be shipped.

I live in Pelosi country (your prayers and sympathy will both be appreciated) and I receive ammo and reloading stuff regularly. Go to a UPS shipping center, pack properly, declare, pay, and shipment is no problem.

Thanks Richard. I frequently say that I'm the only God-fearing, drug-free, monogamous, heterosexual, Republican, bow-hunting Parker collector out of 5 million people. Unfortunately that's not much of an exaggeration.

Winter's still hanging on in God's country, isn't it?

Hi "Ed".

Yes you can. It must go UPS OMR-D, ground only - to only CONUS states (not AK and HI).

It can be shipped legally, but, you must declare it as ORM-D ground only.
