i am doing an appraisal for a couple of Parkers. (I'm a gunsmith) In those appraisals, I wanted to include some information about the number produced since I had a date as to when they were started in production and the original 6 that were ordered. I guess I'll just go with the information I have gleaned from all the research material I have and that should satisfy the authentication of the appraisal.

Larry, you will not come any closer to the actual number produced than the information in the Serialization and Identification book.

The SB does not include extrapolated totals, so it isn't a real good source. Where did the 490 come from? Is the extra 30 after the 267 and the 193 the estimated production after 1939? The best place to have gone with the least effort was The Parker Story, where you could get the totals by grade in known stock book and IBM card entries, in addition to the extrapolated total. The "by grade" total is 568, which includes, by my count from the appendix, 62 of the 568 as an extrapolated estimate, and 506 as actual book entries. Counting of the appendix may be off by a few, but Mr. Mullins' total is as the book states.

The 490 is a mistake on the keyboard. It should have read 460. I have ordered Ron Gabriel's book "American and British 410 Shotguns". I could use it in my library anyway. I have the Parker Story but it does dwell on grade & doesn't list, except in the skeet section, how many of each gauge were produced. BTW, in the skeet section, there were 3 produced by Remington in 16-gauge in the CH grade. I have one of them that I am appraising.
You guys have been great. I really appreciate all the post and interest. I should be able to wind this up in a few days. Myself, I'm an AYA guy because they are so hard to work on. |

finally got the dh parker in my hands a few days ago..almost went into shosk when i opened the box..before i got it unwraped i knew the stock was broke...onlw think holding it together was trigger guard screw....should have took pictures but did not...thought about having some one fix the stock but got to thinking ill try this myself... yesterday i took the gun out to the shop and finally got it glued in place...this morning i went out there andgot it and started cleaning up the glue and what not on the stock...must say ive done a fair job on it...will look good when im done..today i shot a box of lite loads of 1 1/8 ounce through the gun...stock held up fine...have learned a valuable lesson though through this experance... first i forgot to have gun insured dont usally do that... 2nd i should have requiered gun be shipped in a hard case...i guess its live and learn.ive now have repaired my first broke stock but hope i never have to repair another espicially a gun i like as well as this old ten...gonna make this my dove gun for early season.... charlie
