The Super-X 2 7/8 inch 10-gauge load isn't in a Western Cartridge Co. catalog dated March 2, 1925, but is in one dated January 1, 1927. I don't have access to any Western Cartridge Co. paper dated 1926.

The first 1926 NID period Ithaca Gun Co. catalog states "In a dainty little .410 it is a delightful gun for "a lady fair" and in the big super 10 bore it is THE water fowl gun "PAR EXCELLENCE"." That statement was still in the early 1932 Ithaca Gun Co. catalog that didn't yet include the Magnum-Ten. In the second 1932 Ithaca Gun Co. catalog it is changed to "In a dainty little .410 it is a delightful gun for "a lady fair" and in the big super or Magnum 10 bore it is THE water fowl gun "PAR EXCELLENCE"."

Thanks for your advice everyone. I purchased the gun for $1099.99 (the original asking price was $1999.99) from Cabela's and plan to have it looked at by a gunsmith who happens to be the one they use for returned guns. It's very nice and I'll post some photos here tomorrow. The serial number is 450606

Having seen the results of the "gunsmiths" that cabela's uses in my area, I would not send this gun to one of them. Send it to Brian Dudley to have the barrel hook welded and refitted. That way you will know it was done right.

Other reliable and professional sources for such work are Brad Bachelder and Kirk Merrington.

Just Google either. And remember, a bodgered job is no bargain.

That gun was a bargain if the bore are good. Last two guns ( non Parker ) I had put back on face was $350 each plus shipping. That was about 5 years ago done by Freddie Brunner. I am guess it depends on what is needed.

Well it looks as if you were able to get a large price reduction on a gun I tried to buy. I paid to have the gun shipped from Maine to the store in Richmond. I examined the gun and it needing work (new pad to lengthen, refinishing the wood, recutting checkering, removing pitting and reengraving on the left side) to get it in the condition I wanted, I tried to get a price reduction. I was told absolutely $1900 was the lowest they would do based upon what they had paid for it, not a penny less so I walked away (both stores said the same thing). I left my name and number with Richard, the manager down there if they would do better. I know he still had my info since he had my FFL on file. So much for Cabelas' business.

Not the first time I've been screwed by a so called gun library. I had a Parker Trojan 20 on hold at a Gander Mountain one time, and when I went back they would not sell it to me. Defective. Crack behind the tang. Said they had to "destroy" it. I imagine the manager who refused to let me leave with it took it home.

The 10 is the gun I opened a thread about opening chambers on the Super Ten to 3 1/2 inches.

p.s. The 10 is the reason I sold the recent 20 Trojan with hopes of buying. Oh well.
