Loose Breech
This is probably a stupid question, but can a double with a really loose breech be tightened up by a good gunsmith? I'm looking at a 1926 Ithaca NID 10 bore grade 2 with an English stock (the wood is awesome with incredible patina)...the seller is willing to drop $800 off the price of the gun.
Thanks, Shawn |
If you are saying the gun is off face it can be repaired by welding the barrel and refitting it to the hinge pin. About a $450. repair.

I have had two guns repaired in such a way and with great results on both. :) The second by Classic Gunstocks in NY State. They were great to work with and did a fine job.
|
$800 is a fair reduction off the price to cover the needed repair.
|
NID serial numbers began at 425000.
|
I forget the serial number
but it is an NID Dave cocking indicators and all |
Are there early NID tens that are not Super Tens? If so, what is the difference?

but far from an Ithaca expert, all the NID 10's I have seen were either Supers - or later Magnums or supers someone tried to make into a magnum  |
