Loose Breech

This is probably a stupid question, but can a double with a really loose breech be tightened up by a good gunsmith? I'm looking at a 1926 Ithaca NID 10 bore grade 2 with an English stock (the wood is awesome with incredible patina)...the seller is willing to drop $800 off the price of the gun.

Thanks,

Shawn

If you are saying the gun is off face it can be repaired by welding the barrel and refitting it to the hinge pin. About a $450. repair.

Rick...I think this gun is a pre-Super...but I'm not sure. I have the Ithaca book and it seems to fall under the 1926 NID. If I purchase the gun, I promise to photograph it.

I have had two guns repaired in such a way and with great results on both. :) The second by Classic Gunstocks in NY State. They were great to work with and did a fine job.

$800 is a fair reduction off the price to cover the needed repair.

NID serial numbers began at 425000.

I forget the serial number

but it is an NID Dave
cocking indicators and all

Are there early NID tens that are not Super Tens? If so, what is the difference?

I don't think so Bill

but far from an Ithaca expert, all the NID 10's I have seen were either Supers - or later Magnums

or supers someone tried to make into a magnum
