I have a C grade 1894 Remington that broke in half through the wrist - a clean break. Took it to Brad Bachelder. He said, and I can't remember exactly what he called them, but it was some sort of very small termite that ate through from under the top tang to the trigger plate. He said he had only seen this in guns from the west and I had bought it from a fellow out west. He put it back together and you can't see the repair. I highly recommend him.

Thanks for the recommendations, I had a few names in mind based on other threads I have read and seen on this site and you have confirmed all of them. I am in the process of reaching out to those folks now. Thanks again!
