Robert, the "gibberish" you are seeing in the la84 search is a result of using the "text version" which is a computer translation of what is in the real version. Rather than using the text version, click on the heading of the selection and you will get a copy of the real page. Use the text version to locate your search words on the page, then go back and click on the real page and you will not get the "gibberish".

Bill?..... Is that really you?.... You're pretty computer savvy...

So how come you can't post pictures of your wonderful guns?

Thanks Bill, when I'm viewing it looks like a photo of the actual page...when I copied and pasted it came out in gibberish.

Robert,

Your posting caught my interest as I am distantly related to Gurdon H. Pumpelly, and I am pleased that his fine CH is now in appreciative hands. The Pumpellys were a very prominent family in 19th- early 20th century Owego (not Oswego), Tioga Co., NY.

I remember visiting the Pumpelly house in the mid-50s and being absolutely amazed at the huge collection of hunting trophies in the main hall....stuffed bears, mounted moose, etc. I believe that Gurdon took these animals while hunting in Canada and Alaska. I also remember the gun cabinet, but was only allowed to look. Unfortunately, the collection and house contents were sold off in the late 70s, after the death of his son Spencer. Perhaps this is when your CH left the Pumpelly family. The Pumpelly house is now occupied by a high-end bed-and-breakfast establishment.

I may have more Pumpelly info in my files - please PM me if you have some interest.

Regards, Bill Palmer

Robert,
Nice gun, that's the one that passed through Robbin Hollow Outfitters a while back? I have a gun with a similar PGCA letter ordered by Gil Wheeler who is also on the score page you printed out. He was a sales rep. for the Peter's Cartridge Co. Neat.
