I have posted pictures of my CH before but got looking at my letter and decided to do a little research on G. H. Pumpelly using Bill's previously recommended web site la84. It seems Mr. Pumpelly was a armature trap shooter from western NY.
New York Shooters" Have a Fine Day at the Traps. Skaneateles Junction, N. Y., May 15. The tournament of the Glenside Gun Club was a success although the rainy weather in the morning prevented a larger attendance. H. W. Smith and C. S. Cottle, both mem bers of the club, tied for first place. G. H. Pumpelly, of Oswego, was second; C. L. Frantz, of Seneca Falls, and B. G. Wheeler, or Martinİs, third. In event 6, merchandise, Mr. Cottle won the Ithaca gun; Mr. Wilcox, of Rome, the hunting coat, and Mr. Stevens, of Syracuse, the jacket. Mr. J. A. K. Elliott, the Winchester expert, was jsent just nicely convalescent from an s, and the weather was so bad that he o t attempt to shoot. That is a interesting letter. The owner was very specific in what he wanted. Was the saftey missing when you got it?

Thanks Rick, the year was 1908 and that would be my guess. He is listed in Sporting Life 4 different times up to 1913.

Try doing A google search under the book category for G.H. Pumply. I was was able to find quite a bit of info on the shooter who owned my gun this way...
