I can see that there are still case hardening colors so if it were my gun, I'd avoid anything abrasive. I would give it some careful applications, with a Q-tip, or cotton swabs, of Dove dishwashing soap, then mineral spirits. Take care not to get the mineral spirits onto the wood. If you want to break the gun down, put all the metal bits into a bath on the ultrasonic cleaner.
