Mills, Great gun. You'll really like it. Does yours have chambers for brass shells. I still have mine. There's a Grade 3 hammer gun out there that I want (give you all a hint, the snake gun I call it) but I really like the ol NH. best ch

I am still too much a novice to tell if it is for brass shells. I use RST in all my Damascus/Twist barrel guns. I bet our two guns were made around the same time as they seem to have almost all the same features.

Oh i'm the same. Take some thing like a unsharpend pencile and stick it down the chamber and if you can fell the step where the chamber ends its for brass if you can't fell it it's tapered. best ch when was yours made mine in 1892.

There appears to be a small step. I assume it is still safe for RST shells?

Yes, they will open short of the step. Can you fell the step or just see it? ch

I can feel it with a pen. It is somewhat visible looking down the barrel. The turkeys are usually pretty wizened this time of year, after a month of my Dad and brother chasing them around the woods. Another reason to get the extra range with the 10 gauge.
