2012 CHALLENGE CUP EVENTS - UPDATE!
It’s hard to believe, but this year marks the 9th Annual L.C. Smith vs. Parker Bros. Challenge Cup! The score stands at PGCA five and LCSCA three. This will also be the 6th Annual Hammer Gun Challenge. LCSCA has won all six Hammer Gun Challenges.
Qualifying for the Challenge Cup (Event One) begins on Friday around noon, and continues Saturday until everyone that wants to participate has had a chance. Entry fee is $10.00, plus current membership in the PGCA. Target fees apply in addition to that; last year they were $15.00 for each 30 target round. For 2012, Event One will be expanded so that each participant will shoot 60 targets, two (2) rounds of thirty (30) targets each, to be shot back-to-back on two separate 5-stand layouts. Also new this year, LCSCA and PGCA members will shoot on the same squads, with the organization represented by each participant noted on the registration form. We are making this change in order to accommodate additional shooting time; and to avoid situations where, in the past, we have sometimes had only one or two shooters in a squad.
The Challenge Cup Teams for Event Two will be the top 10 shooters from each collectors association. This event is another 30 target event on a re-configured 5-Stand, with the Challenge Cup winner determined by the total score out of the possible 300 targets for each team.
Sunday morning is set aside for the Hammer Gun Challenge. Entry and target fees are the same as Event One of Challenge Cup. The simplified format calls for the total of the 10 best scores from each association to be used to determine the winner of the Hammer Gun Challenge Cup. The PGCA needs more hammer gun shooters in this event.
There are individual awards for the Top Gun, Runner-Up, 3rd Place, and 4th Place in the Challenge Cup, as well as High Lady and High Junior. These are awarded based on individual score, regardless of which make gun is used. Top Gun and Runner-Up awards are also given in the Hammer Gun Challenge Cup.
The PGCA continues to award our shooter with the highest score in the Challenge Cup shooting a composite steel barrel gun the Oscar Gaddy Award.
Plan now to participate in one or both events, we need to improve on our showing in 2012 and let’s get out the hammerguns and try to win one.
