Nice report Patrick.

Re: the hickory reinforcing rod - Not questioning your expertise, just curious - how do you determine a reinforcing rod on such a gun? I know holes were drilled in the butt to add lead or remove wood and then plugged in order to balance the gun but my question echos yours... was Remington still using the reinforcing rod?

Patrick, depending on the serial number, a Remington Parker can be provenanced by information in the stock book entry. There can be all sorts of interesting information on the IBM cards, but not often and not complete specifications on any of them. Many of the features of the gun in question are proven by the gun itself. Are you sure that the reinforcing dowel isn't just the plug commonly seen in a checkered butt?

Patrick,
I have two Remington Skeet guns that lettered to who ordered them.. Rare to be able to find out that but both my 20 ga and 28 ga lettered that way. Also even if it was in skeet confirguration it could be choked M/F, I have a C grade that is that way and I had a V grade 12 ga that was like that . Eric

Dean,
The checkered butt showed the outline of two circular rods/plugs stacked on top of each other. I assumed these to be reinforcing rods since there were two of them. It was certainly an interesting gun.

The two plugged holes in a checkered wood butt are common to most Parkers with that butt. It is not normally a hickory reinforcing rod.
