Parker buttplates

I have a DH that has a horned, plain steel BP . It just does not look right to me however it fits perfectly and there are no extra holes in the stock. The screws are not engraved and there is no serial number on the plate. LOP is 14 1/4" to the plate. Did Parker make a plain steel plate? Serial # 81869

The Parker serialization book (page 44) states that solid steel butt plates were used until about 1878 on Grade 2 and lower. Your D3 was made in 1895, so I would say it's from another shotgun.

Tom, that appears to be the same plate used on many early Parkers, i would guess that it is original, a letter might tell for sure.

That would be an unusual option on a DH of that era. I would order a PGCA letter to authenticate its originality.
